🌲 Location & Getting Here

Q. Where exactly is Stay Nantahala located?
A. Stay Nantahala is located at 17838 Wayah Road, Topton, North Carolina, nestled among the Great Smoky Mountains on beautiful Nantahala Lake at an elevation of over 3,000 feet. The property sits between Franklin and Murphy, NC — about an hour and a half west of Asheville and two and a half hours northwest of Atlanta, making it a convenient mountain escape from major cities.
Q. What is Nantahala Lake like?
A. Nantahala Lake is a pristine mountain lake set within the Great Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina. Surrounded by lush forests and elevated terrain, it offers stunning scenery year-round — from brilliant fall foliage to peaceful summer mornings on the water. Most cabins sit directly on or near the lake, providing guests with an authentic connection to the natural environment.
Q. Is there cell phone service at the property?
A. Cell service in the Nantahala area is limited, as is common in remote mountain settings. Wi-Fi internet is available. We recommend downloading maps and any heavy media content before arriving to make the most of your stay.
Q. Do I need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to reach the cabins?
A. Most of our Lake Nantahala cabin rentals and luxury yurts are accessible by standard passenger vehicles, though the roads are mountain roads and can be winding and steep. During winter months or after heavy rain, having a vehicle with all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive is strongly recommended. We suggest checking the Nantahala weather forecast before your trip and contacting us at (828) 321-3001 if you have concerns about road conditions for your specific property.
Q. Is parking available at the cabins?
A. Yes, all of our North Carolina mountain cabin rentals and luxury yurts include on-site parking. The number of spaces varies by property, so if you are arriving with multiple vehicles please check your specific cabin listing or contact us in advance to confirm adequate parking is available for your group.

🏡 Accommodations

Q. What types of accommodations do you offer?

Mountainside Cabins — Cabins perched on the mountainside with stunning elevated views of the surrounding landscape.
Luxury Yurts — Glamping-style round yurts nestled alongside converging creeks, blending comfort with nature immersion.
Q. How many guests can the cabins accommodate?
A. Our cabins near Lake Nantahala come in a variety of sizes to suit any group. Our lakefront cabins and mountain side cabins can comfortably sleep 4, 6, 8, 10, even up to 14 people, making them ideal for families, wedding parties, or large gatherings. Each cabin listing includes specific bedroom count and capacity details to help you choose the right fit.
Q. Do the lakefront cabins have private lake access?
A. Most of our lakefront cabins and mountainside cabins include a private dock with direct lake access, so you can step right out to the water for swimming, fishing, or launching a kayak. Details are noted in each cabin's listing — we recommend reviewing the amenities section before booking if dock access is a priority for your stay.

⛺ Luxury Yurts & Glamping

Q. What exactly is a luxury yurt, and how is it different from camping?
A. A luxury yurt — often called glamping — gives you the magic of sleeping in nature without sacrificing comfort. Our yurts are fully furnished round structures featuring two private bedrooms, a full bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a hot tub, a washer and dryer, and a private deck. Set alongside beautiful converging creeks, they offer the sights and sounds of the Nantahala wilderness with all the comforts of a well-appointed retreat.
Q. How many people can a luxury yurt sleep?
A. Each luxury yurt has two bedrooms and one full bathroom and comfortably sleeps up to 4 guests. They are perfect for couples, small families, or a pair of friends looking for a private nature escape.
Q. Are the yurts private, or will I hear neighboring guests?
A. Our yurts are designed to offer a genuine sense of seclusion within nature. Past guests have noted that even when neighboring yurts were occupied, they never saw or heard other guests. The natural setting provides a wonderful buffer, and the ambient sounds of the creek nearby add to the overall sense of tranquility.
